The Case of the Absent Blogger

It was Mystery and Thriller week over on Goodreads last week, hence the title. (Neat, don’t you think?) As many of you might have noticed, I took a month-long vacation from blogging without any prior notice. I feel like I owe my regular readers an explanation, so that’s what I’ll be talking about in this post. Also, watch out for some fun Harry Potter GIFs. 😀

Why the Absence?

Two main reasons for this one: extended illness and a writing slump (I refuse to call it writer’s block).

Let’s Talk Animation

monday-musings

If you didn’t already know, I’m a huge fan of animated movies. Since yesterday, I’ve been binge-watching some Disney movies and done little else. I only paused now to talk about how awesome they are in this blog post and then I’ll go right back to it. Cause for concern? Probably. But animated movies are like a sugar-high without any of the side effects, and I can’t resist indulging.

5 Things I Hate About Goodreads + GIFs

screen-shot-2015-04-09-at-9-59-34-am

No, wait, don’t pounce. I visit that site so often I virtually live there, but some features or groups of people are simply annoying. I normally don’t go around complaining, but I just had to get this off my chest. One of my favourite book bloggers was recently attacked on Twitter for uh… I have no idea why, and she was forced to make the account private. You’d think that reading books would help people make smarter choices, but apparently not. Here are my top five complaints.

#NaNoWriMo Stage 2 + GIFs

Imagine a rocket lifting off – the vibrations that shake the very foundations of the earth, the almighty roar as the engine blazes to life and the fumes mingled with dust that partially obscures the rocket itself. If you’ve seen it, you know what a majestic sight it offers. You feel a sense of deep relief and awe as it takes off on its calculated course. That was me on the first day of November, hugging my characters with happy tears and addressing the press outside on my soaring success.

Now the said rocket has veered off course and the happy engineer in the control room is in shambles (not to mention the loss of crores of fictional money). She is furiously trying to recalculate the variables and chart a new course that would enable this wayward rocket to successfully complete its mission. That was when she was struck (the clichéd mad scientist scenario, it would seem) by a glorious, impossible idea.

On Overuse – Part Two

[Note: Life is getting slightly more hectic than I’d planned for, so I’ve not been putting up Fictional Fridays in August thus far. I will get back to it once time permits. Even this post is hardly what you’d call wordy, but I’ve tried to make it as fun and entertaining as possible. Hope you enjoy!]

As I spend an increasing amount of time surfing through the Internet (mostly Twitter), I can’t help but notice some glaringly overused words and phrases. As my previous post On Overuse is probably my most successful post to date, I decided to pour out my annoyance in part two.

Decisions of a Lifetime

I spend a lot of time reminiscing, I don’t deny, for it is easier to imagine an age where the biggest decisions I had to make was the brand of chocolate I wanted that week. I wish I was still that little, that carefree and that sure of my choices. As the years passed, the impact of my decisions got larger and larger. Now I’m faced with the worst of them all – what am I going to do with my life?

Warning: You’ll have to navigate through a lot of GIFs this time because my words are being funnelled into my Camp NaNo project and because I enjoy them.
