Inspirational Female Characters in Movies

I wanted to make this a series for the month of June because it’s my birthday month (you’re free to guess the exact date in the comments 😛 ) and I feel oddly reflective at this time of the year. Basically, I like to take stock of everything that’s happened so far in my life and where I’m headed next. It is of particular significance this year because I’ve graduated and am about to enter the corporate world. I was thinking back on everything that has shaped me into the person I am now and that’s how I came up with the idea for this post. Of all the various movies I’ve seen so far (it’s still a modest number right now), these are the three female characters I’ve identified with or have been inspired by the most.

Warning: this post may contain spoilers (and fabulous GIFs) for Wonder Woman, Pirates of the Caribbean and Interstellar.

The Mystery Blogger Award

In my Monday post I mentioned that I’ve been tagged for a number of fun challenges and awards during my absence. This is the second one, the Mystery Blogger Award. A big thank you to the most supportive blogger I know, Sara Letourneau, for the tag! You can check out her blog here. Thanks also to the creator of the tag, Okoto Enigma, who describes it as: “The Mystery Blogger Award is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging; and they do it with so much love and passion.” A nomination for such an award means so much to me! *wipes a happy tear*

As is usual in these kind of posts, it comes with its own set of rules:

  1. Display the award logo on your blog. (Done.)
  2. Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog. (Yup.)
  3. Mention the creator of the award and provide a link. (Check.)
  4. Tell your readers 3 things about yourself.
  5. Answer 5 questions from the nominee.
  6. Nominate 10 – 20 bloggers.
  7. Notify your nominees by leaving a comment on their blog.
  8. Ask your nominees 5 questions of your choice, including 1 weird or funny question.
  9. Share the link to your best post.

I can sense this is going to be a long post, so fasten your seat belts for the ride, folks!

Let’s Talk Animation

monday-musings

If you didn’t already know, I’m a huge fan of animated movies. Since yesterday, I’ve been binge-watching some Disney movies and done little else. I only paused now to talk about how awesome they are in this blog post and then I’ll go right back to it. Cause for concern? Probably. But animated movies are like a sugar-high without any of the side effects, and I can’t resist indulging.

2016 Wrap-Up

I know it’s a terribly clichéd idea for a blog post, but looking back at the year often provides valuable lessons for the future. We probably all had that one big, embarrassing failure we don’t want to talk about and pray will never happen to us again. We all hopefully experienced a few deviously designed plans by the devil that confounded us but which we overcame anyway, becoming wiser in the process. We all definitely had those beautiful moments where the entire universe was perfectly aligned just for us, which brings a smile on our faces even as we think about it now. By now you should be convinced this is a great post idea. If you are, then bear with me as I share how 2016 went for me (and you can tell me all about yours after that).

My Top Ten: Movies

As I sit down to write my 100th blog post, I can’t help but look back with a smile at my blogging journey. It’s been less than a year since I started posting regularly, but lately I’ve felt less compelled to give into my laziness and miss a post, mostly because writing for this blog brings me immense joy. Perhaps it isn’t a widely successful internet phenomenon, but that has never been my aim. I’m lucky that I’ve found so many loyal readers who like the sort of things I write about. On this important milestone, I’d like to thank everyone who has ever read a post written by me and felt it was worth your time.

The previous Monday post reminded me that trying to limit my favourites to three is a very difficult task for someone like me, so I decided to do something interesting and list my favourites according to the date. This time around, I chose movies, mostly because I’ve been re-watching the series that defined my childhood. I realise that a lot of people might not like the kind of cinema that I do, and if you are one of them, I hope you will not judge me by what I love. Also, I’ll be discussing only English movies in my post because a lot of my regular readers will be able to easily identify them. That does not mean that I don’t watch/hate on regional movies. In fact, recently, I’ve watched quite a lot of good Kannada movies and really liked them (Godhi BaNNa… was amazing, in my humble opinion). Also, I do enjoy the occasional Bollywood movie, provided they’re not the usual, predictable masala kind.
