Blogging for Beginners #5: Grow Your Audience

Hello and welcome to the last post of this blogging series! I hope you’ve been following the previous posts, especially if you’re a newbie and have found it helpful. Today I’ll be talking about something that is very relevant even to my “big” blog – how to grow your blog’s audience. Again, please note that I’m not an expert and I’m not going to be talking about SEO (because WordPress takes care of it on its own), but will provide tips based on my personal experiences that apply to WordPress users. With that little disclaimer out of the way, let’s get to the good stuff.

Blogging for Beginners #3: Customisation

Welcome to another edition of Blogging for Beginners! From this post onward, I will focus solely on WordPress blogs. I talked about whether you should be blogging and how to select the right platform depending on the topic of your blog previously. If you decided to go with WordPress and are a bit confused as to what exactly you should be doing on here, this is the perfect post for you. I will be concentrating on getting the look and feel of your blog right (which may be something you’re struggling with even as a seasoned blogger), but I must warn you that I am no expert and if you feel like you should be focusing on content or marketing, feel free to skip this post.

Blogging for Beginners #2: The Right Platform

Welcome back to another post in this how-to blogging series. Last week, I covered the ‘why’ and ‘what’ part (check it out here if you missed it). After taking the first step and deciding that you should have a blog, the logical next question you should ask yourself is ‘where’. This is the focus of this week’s post, where I’ll be comparing the three most popular blogging platforms that I have had personal experience with, which of those I recommend to everyone and how you can choose between them depending on your requirements. Please note that I’m not going to be talking about self-hosting.

Changes Are Coming

On this day, two years ago, I made a decision that brought a sense of purpose, joy and a whole lot of friends into my life. Looking back I realise that I haven’t always stuck to it as regularly as I’d have liked to, but I’ve gained so much from it that I cannot see myself stopping any time soon. On this day, two years ago, I started a blog called Pages That Rustle.

Mind Chatter

monday-musings

This isn’t what I wanted to write about at all. I think last night I’d decided on anger. (You really should’ve gone with that.) Then I wanted to talk about depression. (That book was totally out of your comfort zone.) After that, I saw a friend was struggling with anxiety and was tempted to discuss that. (Let’s go on Twitter again!) In the morning, I woke up to another friend being mad at me because I did the right thing and I thought that could span an entire post. (It couldn’t have.) I picked up the newspaper and read so much about Holi that I texted a third friend about how it is overrated. She suggested I should talk about it in my blog post for today. (You should mention her name – she’d like that.) It so happened that when I opened up my laptop and saw the new layout in WordPress, I started typing about something else entirely. (Why does everything have to change? You should write about that.)

Blog Thanksgiving

I’m quite aware that the actual holiday was a month ago, but I just like the spirit of the festival and thought it’d make a good title. This is a listicle, but bear with me because you might see your name in this one. The idea is to thank the people who’ve made blogging worthwhile for me either by being extremely nice and kind in the comments section or by liking all of my posts or just by posting excellent content that inspires me to improve or, as in most cases, doing them all. It’s been a year since I started blogging “seriously” and I don’t think I’d have lasted even this long if it hadn’t been for these wonderful people. Ready to meet them? (In no particular order, I swear.)

Creative Woes + An Announcement

I’ve been dreading writing this post and putting it off for the longest time. It seems like every time I take a break, it gets a little more difficult to return to the habit. Not for lack of ideas or interest, it’s mostly fear.

The Blogger Recognition Award

This post is going to be short because I have tests this week (You know those things that creep up on you when you never really want to see them? Yeah, that kind). This post has been long overdue. I think I was nominated a month ago. (Time flies!) The special fact about this one is that I’ve been nominated by three of my blogging friends – Surabhi, Jajwalya and Sriraksha. 😀

Automattic Love

No, I’m sure the spelling in the title is right. In this post, I’m being thankful to WordPress on my blog’s anniversary.
